Can Dance solve a Pandemic?

Can dance change the current pandemic situation? Maybe not.

Can dance change years and years of cuts in the system? Maybe not.

Can dance change the way politicians and changemakers are acting and behaving towards society? Maybe not.

Can dance save us from the economic crisis, health crisis and general worldwide crisis? Maybe not.

So why do we dance? In the midst of all the craziness that is happening in the world, why do we keep dancing?

The answer is simple.

Dance keeps us sane. And in these crazy times, we need something to keep us sane and grounded.

Dance has the power to do that.

Dance might not have the power to change the world around us, but it does have the power to change the world within us.

It is only possible to fight against injustices, trying to make it in a system that is ruthless, if we are ready to commit to it. And when it gets exhausting, we need something to go back to that allows us to recharge.

Dance also offers structure as well as freedom within it. In a world that feels upside down most of the time, it is fundamental to have a sense of direction in life. Not only that, but there is no judgement, only curiosity, when practicing. Unfortunately, there are very few moments in life where judgement (or the fear of it) is not present, so there is a real need to cherish moments of free exploration within safe boundaries.

If you have never tried dance, this is the perfect time to give it a try. I recommend Popping For Parkinson’s
