5 Ways to stop lockdown having the best of you
Lockdown got the best of you?
Have you had enough of pointless Zoom meetings?
Not having a sustainable work/life balance?
We have all been there. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, unenthusiastic and unmotivated. With online FOMO (yes, it is a real thing) kicking in, plus the continuous stream of apocalyptic news from all over the world, it is challenging to find motivation to dust yourself off and stop feeling sorry for yourself.
So, give these 5 things a try, they really helped and supported me during these crazy unprecedented times, and I hope they support you too. They are all very simple activities that do not require a lot of effort, yet they have a massive impact.
Here we go:
1. Go for a walk
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Well, that is because it really is simple.
Various scientific studies have shown that walking clears your head, it stimulates new thought patterns, and it releases tension. If possible, try to visit a park rather than walking on concrete, as walking in nature brings benefits quicker.
2. Wake up without your phone
This was a game changer for me, taken by Charlie Dark (check him out if you don’t know him @daddydarkrdc). Most of us wake up and start scrolling through social media first thing in the morning. By allowing ourselves to only connect with the outside world after breakfast/shower/meditation/morning routines, it gives us space to connect with ourselves first. Even better is if you can buy an old school alarm clock, so that you don’t use the alarm on your phone. Again, simple yet so effective.
3. Stop drinking coffee after 2pm
I. Love. Coffee. But since Lockdown, I have had trouble sleeping because of all the stress and anxiety kicking in. Following advice from a nutritionist, I stopped drinking coffee (or any caffeinated drink) after 2pm, and it was a game changer.
4. Practice Yoga
Especially if you have never been practicing, there has never been a better time to start. Don’t fall for the wishy washy fake spirituality, I am talking about mindful movement. The moment you approach Yoga as a practice rather than a task that needs achieving solely to brag about it on IG, you will be able to really benefit from it. There are so many incredible teachers out there that will guide you in the right direction (I recommend Yoga with Hanna)
5. Dance
Put on a song that makes you want to move and shake everything off. Indulge in the pleasure of losing yourself in the most natural way. By doing this, you release tension and you unlock joy. If you want to give dance a try, I recommend Popping For Parkinson’s
